One of the things I really enjoy about table top gaming is the finished product. When I can put a fully painted army on the board it just invigorates my gaming. As I build up my Retribution for Templecon I can field a fully painted force, but not yet the one that I want (which keeps changing). So I have been trying to get on myself to turn out the painted units and be done.
Recently I finished my full unit of Sentinels with the unit Commander and as I said prior I get so motivated pushing those little painted soldiers across the table. My painting skills are not even that terrific, they are good enough to be on the table and they make me proud.
Even having my new fully painted Malifaux crew makes the game to me that much more fun. I see it as the time and energy I put into my miniatures to make them look good and I am proud of that.
So I will ride this wave to hopefully get all my painting done for Templecon, now off to the table.

Am I doing it all over again
The new hotness in my life on the gaming front is Malifaux. Last year at Templecon I had the pleasure of seeing the D6 Generation run a Malifaux demo. At this demo I won a Gremlins box set (starter set) Fast forward 8 months and I have fully painted the Gremlins and played in my first game of Malifaux.
I bought the rule book as I decide what faction I want to purchase as the Gremlins would not have been my first choice but who can argue with free! The book has an interesting mix of telling a story then mixing in the rules and game mechanics, then continuing the story line. I really like it and it is helping to decide what me next faction is, Lilith or Victoria's.
So it does seem that I am off and running into a new game but isn't that what all us gamers do.

Preparations for Temple Con
I hear lots of talk from many podcasters as they plan for Templecon in February 2011. I need to get ready myself. So what am I going to need and what am I going to do?
After talking to the wife it looks like I will be there Friday and Saturday, heading home on Sunday morning. I will need to come up with some lists for tourneys, make sure everything is painted, get signed up and registered.
I am also a Press Ganger for Privateer Press so should talk to the events coordinator on how I can help out if needed. I also really want to bring my Malifaux team and get a demo and some games in to learn that game.
Templecon has become the premier event in the world for Warmachine/Hordes and grows bigger and bigger every year. It is so cool that it is only an hour from my house. Can't wait to go.

Podcasters don't sparkle like Vampires!
I really like the podcast "the d6 generation" (www.d6generation.com). If you have not heard it I suggest you get on over to iTunes and download it. I think the guys + Nicole do a great job in providing a very entertaining show that is filled with all the "geeky" information I want. Recently three of the crew went to GenCon and spoke about how fun it was to meet the fans among all the other GenCon things.
This got me to thinking about the dynamics of the fan meeting for the first time someone whom she is connected to via a 4 hour podcast bi-monthly and twitter, whether this be the d6 generation or any other person/podcast you are a fan of.
From the fans side of the fence, When I think about Russ, Nicole, Craig, and even Raef (joking) from what I listen to and the way they act I feel we are all friends that have a lot in common. I know a lot about them from the podcast and twitter feed so I am vested in their thoughts and feelings. Something I would also say about a good friend I grew up with.
From the side of the d6 generation crew I am just a twitter name dragonknight31 that they may or may not remember corresponding with.
So what I was thinking was all the fans meeting the crew at GenCon and that they probably feel the same way I do towards the d6 crew. We have this dynamic of the fan wanting to come up and say hello and talk to my friends however I know they don't have the same relationship with me that I have with them. Which I guess would be the same dynamic with any other podcaster/celebrity. This somehow might bring feelings of shyness or "I don't want to bother them or creep them out".

WarMachine Army Part II
Painting and Playing
I started out with painting the starter set...what a novel idea! The warbeasts were just screaming dry brush so I tried to keep it simple and quick. Here is my formula to quick and I think nice painting. Black primer, Paint Brown, Apply GW Wash, Drybrush, highlight as needed, eyes, base, matte varnish. This was surprisingly simple and fast.
Now I look upon my fully painted (minus beast form Kromac as of this writing) Circle of Orboros 35pt list.
Starting out with Kaya as my warlock. She is looked down upon in the Circle community as she is not that powerful however I love the model. I stuck to the basic plan of send in the Warpwolf then use Spirit door to bring him back to Kaya. Rinse and Repeat to victory. I could buff him with pathfinder from the Argus or +2 movement from my Gnarlhorn Satyr if needed. Generally whatever a Warpwolf hits, he destroys!
My list is beast heavy to say the least and very fun to play. My win/loss record is average but I have a renewed love for WarMachine and a new giant love of Hordes. Even so much as I am thinking or using them at Templecon instead of Retribution...we will see.

WarMachine, starting a new army - Part I
The mood has struck again drawing me to a new army. This time there is a difference as I am venturing into the new realm of mkii Hordes. Hordes or WarMahince it means more plastic and metal to buy and paint, new tactics to learn, as well as new rules. Here is how I go about this new endeavor.
What army should I play? I have gone done this road before with mki Hordes and never “pulled the trigger”. I have never 100% been crazy about any of the model from Hordes so have evaded it up until now. Well since mkii was released for WarMachine I have fallen in love all over again with WarMachine so when Hordes mkii was announced I figured this would be a great time for me to jump into the new ruleset of Hordes. So the game as a whole had me but what faction will I go with? Off to the Gallery on the Privateerpress.com website to go model by model and see what draws me. Another thing that sways me when I start a new army in any system is “Can I get this fully painted?” I love more than anything to play a “fully painted” army so this is a concern. Currently I am having loads of fun running my Retribution so I don’t want to abandon them but I have gotten a new caster and have lots more to paint on that front. So I decide to go beast heavy for the reason of less to paint. Next visit is the privateerpress.com forums and do a search on beast heavy armies. Circle, Skorne, or Legion. Skorne is out because it reminds me of Khador which I already have. I am just not a huge fan of the Legion models, dragons are awesome but these are different. Circle for the win!
I am a big fan of podcasts since getting an iTouch. I listen to D6 Generation, Iron Agenda, and Focus and Fury. So I decided to send an email to Josh @ The Iron Agenda asking him about Circle and beast heavy. Well they reviewed my email on the show and gave me great ideas. Now I am ready to run with my Circle beast heavy list recommend be an experienced Circle player.
Now I have to get the models. This actually worked out really well, being a Press Ganger for Privateer Press I have accumulated PG points so I was able to pickup my whole Circle army using these.

Missing in Action
Where have the posts gone? Not sure if you have ever blogged but you always hit a "lull" unless you are super disciplined. So lately I have pretty much shelved my WarHammer armies to focus on WarMachine which just released there new rules MKII. I will post pictures soon.
